Requirements:
- Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or optometry
- Experience: 2 years to less than 3 years in a relevant field
Responsibilities:
- Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals
- Examine patients’ health conditions to identify diseases and injuries
- Order laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate medical treatment
- Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients’ physical and mental health
- Prescribe and administer medications and treatments
- Perform and assist in routine surgery
- Advise patients on healthcare matters
- Coordinate or manage primary patient care
- Provide acute care management and emergency care
Credentials:
- College of Family Physicians Certification (CCFP)
- Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities
Experience and Specialization:
- Specialization in family practice, anesthesia, emergency medicine, and general surgery
